Burst mode — between contractions

Two burst modes track your labour from start to end.
In early labour, the pulsing rhythm between contractions is already building your body's own pain-relief chemicals — endorphins and enkephalins — so each contraction meets more of your own capacity.
When contractions pick up pace, the second mode adjusts with you.

Boost mode — during contractions

When the wave begins, you press boost. Instant surge — matched to the contraction, always in your hands.
Two modes let you stay matched to where you are: one for early labour, one for when contractions are stronger and closer together.
When the wave passes, you release. You're back in burst.

How to use

The best time to meet your Elle TENS is weeks before you need it. These six steps take about five minutes to run through — practise a few times from 37 weeks, and on the day they'll be second nature.

Your birth partner can help position the pads on your back — four electrodes, easier with two pairs of hands.

Peel the four electrode pads and place them on your back — two on the upper back, two on the lower, each pair either side of the spine.
Connect the leadwires and turn the unit on. It starts in burst mode automatically.
Raise the intensity until you feel a soft, steady pulse. Between contractions, let it run — it keeps building your body's natural pain relief in the background.
When a wave begins, press Boost — the pulses become continuous through the contraction. Release it when the wave passes and you're back in Burst.
As contractions build, switch to Mode 2 when it feels right — the Burst rhythm doubles, from one burst per second to two.
Adjust the intensity — up or down — to what feels right to you. For more depth, dial up Opti-Max any time you need it.
